"Classic dry Rosé- savory, crunchy and fine boned"- Koerner Bros. They make two pink cuveés under this label and it is a tale of two wines; one being called a rosé the other a light red. The Koerners love to experiment and push the boundaries of our ideas of what makes a typical wine. The idea here is to create a lean, crisp, very laser-like style wine. It is the light to the dark- literally and figuratively- the Dr. Jekyll to the Mr. Hyde of the Light Red. Sour cherry, cranberry, citrus, and pineapple notes around a tightly wound core.

Vineyard Notes

Soil Type(s): Sandy loam on deep clay

Grapes were machine harvested with an on board destemmer on March 14 (Sauvignon Blanc), March 19 (Chardonnay), and April 2 (Merlot), 2022.

Production Notes

The grapes are crushed and de-stemmed with 3 hours on the skins. The free run and later pressings are combined, then cold settled off dirt and heavy solids for 24 hours. The wines are fermented in 2000L Slavonian oak Foudre for 4 weeks and aged in stainless steel tanks for 4 months on fine lees. Sterile filtration and no fining.

Fun Facts

Although it has two white grapes accounting for 40% of the juice, it is still classified a rosé in the classic sense due to the larger share of Merlot. All three grapes spend 3 hours on the skins, enough to bleed the color from the Merlot, but also add texture and enhanced floral qualities from the Sauvignon Blanc. All of these grapes are sourced from very high points in the Clare, with the Deanery being the highest at 600m!
