This is not like most of the Saperavi found in the Alazani Valley. Instead of going for intensity and concentration, this wine is elegant and smooth. Notes of red currant, blackberry, and fresh thyme are supported by a backbone of tannins that are strong yet not overpowering.

Vineyard Notes

2022 was a phenomenal year in Kakheti, perfect weather conditions led to a great crop. The grapes are always hand harvested, especially coming from some of the oldest vines of Saperavi in the region. The grapes were harvested at 23 degrees Brix.

Production Notes

The wines are fermented on their skins and stems (cha-cha) for 15-21 days. After the inintial fermentation and maceration period, the wines are pumped into a different qvevri and aged for an additional 2 years. After approximately 25 months in qvevri, the wines are bottled and aged a minimum of 3 years. 2021 is the current vintage, with 2022 being released soon!

Fun Facts

Patara Marani has its own vineyards in the Kakheti region, the Saperavi is grown in the micro-zone of Akhobi. Tea is the first (official) female traditional winemaker in Kakheti's history. Crazy to think as the region has been making these wines in the same way since around 6250 BC!
