A true Pinot lover's wine. That is a cop-out. What I mean to say is that if you don't like this wine, maybe Pinot Noir is not your thing. Honestly, try Grenache or Gamay. This is what Pinot Noir is all about. Elegant, laser-focused, etherial, but not too lean. Having steak? Maybe have this as a side bottle... Want something that can be enjoyed between courses with a great conversation (or in lieu of one)- jackpot!

Vineyard Notes

Grown on the Jory Volcanic outcroppings covered by loess and the Missoula floods, this is one of the ideal places to grow cold climate Chardonnay. It is in close proximity to the Van Duzer Corridor and is one of the coldest parts of the Willamette Valley. The vineyard is farmed biodynamically and with meticulous care for the health of the grapes. No-till farming with a permanent cover crop are two ways to improve soil structure and it helps spread native fungi underneath the vines. Mycorrhizal fungi transport water and nutrients just below the soil to the places that need them most without most above even knowing they are there.

Soil Type(s): Volcanic Jory covered by Loess

Production Notes

No one had to twist the team’s arms to make a Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley. Pinot is probably the varietal the team drinks the most, which means they all have personal feelings regarding how the ideal bottle should taste. One thing they can all agree on, however, is that the ideal wine should be a pure expression of the vineyard where it’s grown. This means the fruit is meticulously cared for, the fermentation carried out naturally, and the wine is not overpowered by oak. SOM Pinot ticks all of these boxes and more, aided by the good friends at the L.S. Vineyard in Oregon’s Eola-Amity Hills. The wine spent a year in 100% new French oak from Tonnelerie Damy.
