This is a Georgian qvevri wine made from a lighter skinned red grape. This leads to a leaner style, a bit more crunchy than the Saperavi you may have heard of. Nevertheless, the time on skins leads it to be tannic but full of red fruit. Lots of cranberry, red plum, and mulberry notes with a bit of stemmy structure.

Production Notes

Grown on the terraced slopes of the Kartli hillside looking up at the monastery. The soil is mostly alluvial with pockets of clay. The grapes are hand harvested by the monastic team.Pressed, then fermented in qvevri. I wish I could say more but they are a bit guarded with their wine making style. Just a part of the monastic lifestyle....

Fun Facts

This is a VERY rare variety, not one that you come across even on most tours of Georgia for the wine industry. Parentage is unknown and only a handful of producers- maybe 5 or so work with it commercially.
