"Skin Contact Hills Blend – Exotic, spicy & crisp" is how the Koerners describe this wine. We think exactly the same, with Savagnin adding a whallop of acid and structure. The wine is slightly salty, a great summer delight.

Vineyard Notes

The Savagnin & Riesling was hand-harvested and hand-sorted on March 25, 2021.

Soil Type(s): Sandy loam on sandstone & ironstone

Production Notes

The grapes are crushed and de-stemmed, retaining 50% whole berry with 20 days on the skins. The free run and later pressings are combined, then cold settled off gross lees for 7 days. The wine is fermented utilizing native yeasts in stainless steel exposed to open air and hand plunged twice daily. Then it is racked, and settled off gross lees for 7 days. The wine is aged in stainless steel for 10 months. No fining or filtering.

Fun Facts

Savagnin is a popular grape these days in Australia. For many years though, most of the country knew it under a different name- Albariño! It was only in the 2000s that genetic testing proved that this was not the mainstay grape of Galicia but one that comes from the Alpine reaches of the Jura in France!
